The O’Meara-Braggio Award

During the month of May 2024, Branch 11 club members are encouraged to participate in the O’Meara-Braggio Award using the special event callsign ZL100AC to make DX contacts.

This is to honour the centenary of the first trans-Pacific radio communication by Carlos Braggio (Buenos Aires) and Ivan O’Meara (Gisborne) in 1924. There is more information on a QRZ page here:

As well as acknowledging this amazing technical feat, the award will encourage Gisborne radio club members to get involved in DX communication on the HF bands and promote amateur radio in the Tairāwhiti region.
