Date: Third Tuesday of every month
Time: 1930 hrs
Frequency: 146.900 MHz (Whakapunake VHF Repeater)
Objective: Establish and test communication with various East Coast regions using different radio frequencies. This gives us the ability to analyze which operator stations and/or regions may need to make adjustments, to maintain radio communication in times of disaster.
We hope to eventually establish radio communication networks between Gisborne, Manutuke, Te Karaka, Ruatoria, Tokumaru Bay, Tolaga Bay, Wairoa, Bay of Plenty, and Napier/Hastings.
Laura ZL3LJ is net control.
At 2000hrs we switch to HF bands starting with 40m (7.070 MHz) check-in then 80m (3.775 MHz) check-in.
If the HF frequency is busy we'll QSY up/down 5kHz
We also check-in on our local Meshcore Public channel.
After the Net we invite people to test VaraC using 40m band (7.105 MHz).
Other frequencies and modes may be added on the night.
It's a check-in net only - no rag chew!
Check-in with callsign, name and location
We QSY across a number of frequencies/bands. You may not get all of them - the idea is to join the ones you can. We'll be adding modes and frequencies each month as we develop the net further.
Also, if you can, it's a good time to check your backup power supply. e.g. try running your station on backup power for the whole net. It may just remind you to charge up those batteries!
The Gisborne Radio Club encourages all members to join the AREC volunteer network to learn about and participate in setting up and running emergency communication networks.
The major focus of AREC is assisting Police and LandSAR search and rescue operations with communication plans and radio support.
In times of civil emergency where normal communication infrastructure has been damaged we work with Civil Defence to establish radio communication.
